14 October, 2008 – Hathersage Group, initial meeting

Present: Ursula, Kath, Andrea (interested as well: Jane, Bea, Stewart & Sarah)

This was a meeting to discuss what needs to be done in order to open a Kindergarten in the Scout Cabin on Baulk Lane in Hathersage. We spoke about:

·         Monday afternoon when Ursula, Kath & Alys went up to Leeds to speak with the kindergarten teacher there. It was very helpful to talk with Francesca and to see another space that is put up and taken down every day. We got lots of ideas for creating the space, but more importantly we discussed lots of things related to starting a kindergarten and keeping it running.

·         Work to be done on the Baulk Lane building.  Kath and Ursula will speak with the owner about fixing a price and sorting out who does what to make the place suitable for our needs. In spite of the low turnout for the meeting, we are still optimistic about the kindergarten, but it is important that people be involved so that we can use the space as soon as possible. There are going to be two work weekends in the near future and the more people involved the better!

·         Who’s interested, we have 7 children interested already who could feasibly start around Easter, we would need to have a max of 13 for legal reasons, as well as space and keeping a calm environment. We could offer afternoon care as well for the enrolled children (not a kindergarten session). There are possible teachers, but nothing definite yet.

·         Kath did an estimate of costs and salaries which was positive.

·         It would be nice to see if we can get a student or teacher-in-training to come and help at the kindergarten eventually. Ursula will write an announcement to put in the San Francisco Waldorf High School, if anyone else thinks they could use it then just ask.

It would be helpful to organize a meeting in Sheffield with the larger group to discuss where we’re at and what are our next steps as the Seven Hills group. Could anyone volunteer to organize it? Dates? Place? Thanks.

All the best,

Ursula
